Seahawks Favored To Win 2016 Super Bowl

The NFL teams are beginning training camp this week but sportsbooks around the world are already taking action on the 2016 Super Bowl champion. Despite coming up short in this year’s game the Seattle Seahawks are the current favorite to win Super Bowl 50.

Note that is ‘Super Bowl 50′ and not ‘Super Bowl L’. The NFL has apparently done away with their long standing convention of using Roman numerals to designate each year’s Super Bowl. That’s good news for fans and writers alike who will no longer have to go through the tedious process of ‘translating’ the Roman numerals on each game when writing about a past Super Bowl. No word yet from the NFL if this is a permanent change but since it would be silly to do it for just one year you have to think that it is.

The Seattle Seahawks are currently +465 favorites to win Super Bowl 50, putting them just ahead of second favorite Green Bay at +565. The only other team priced at single digit odds is the Indianapolis Colts at +950. The New England Patriots are at +1000 ahead of the Denver Broncos (+1500) and the Dallas Cowboys (+1850). Every other team in the field is priced at 20/1 or higher.

At the other end of the spectrum–the Jacksonville Jaguars are once again the biggest long shot to win the Super Bowl priced at a whopping +450000. Just ahead of the Jags are the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans, both at +400000.

Betting odds are also available for the specific Super Bowl matchup. The favorite matchup is New England vs. Green Bay (+1400) which is somewhat curiously a slight favorite over New England vs. Seattle (+1450). Two matchups are priced at +990000–that would be the payout should Jacksonville or Oakland face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 50.

It’s important to keep in mind that these odds will change frequently during the NFL preseason. Also important–if you’re looking to bet Super Bowl futures odds you definitely want to ‘shop around’. These prices can vary widely from one sportsbook to another based on a particular store’s ‘handle’. If you’re going to bet this game you definitely want to get the best price.
